GameFly Not Phased By Redbox Announcement

Yesterday Redbox made clear its plans to bring video game rentals to its… red… boxes nationwide. Blockbuster may have busted but that doesn't mean Redbox has cornered the market on gaming rentals.

Have you forgotten about GameFly? I have. I mean, I'm not subscribed to the service, but it's always been something that interested me. I love Netflix and GameFly is pretty similar right?

GameFly co-founder Sean Spector thinks so too. When comparing movie rentals to game rentals, Spector came with a fitting analogy:

I think both models can work. Look at Netflix and Redbox for movies. There are a lot of people who rent movies from kiosks, so renting games to some of those users makes sense. It also proves that consumers want choices when it comes to gaming, and renting is an easy and economical option.

With all of that said, I don't think Spector has anything to worry about. Starting at $16 a month, GameFly allows you to keep a game as long as you want without worrying about late fees. Redbox, on the other hand, charges renters $2 a day.

Do some math.
