Dark Horse Comics has announced a God of War PS4 prequel comic miniseries. The game featured the return of Kratos, albeit in a new setting with a whole new pantheon of gods and monsters to slay. However, it did not explain how exactly he arrived in the foreign land, or what he’s been up to in between having a family and the events of 2010’s God of War 3 so the comic will aim to bridge that gap.
The God of War PS4 prequel comic miniseries will only contain four issues. It will be helmed by writer Chris Roberson, artist Tony Parker, colorist Dan Jackson, and letterer John Roshell. Roberson is best known for writing iZombie and Witchfinder. The person responsible for the artwork below is artist E.M. Gist, who has worked on The Strain comic book series also published by Dark Horse.
Speaking with ComicBook, Dark Horse describes Kratos in the God of War prequel comic miniseries as “living in the remote Norse Wilds after his war on the gods of Olympus. Seeking to put the rage that defined most of his life behind him, Kratos inadvertently sparks a feud with a mysterious cult of berserkers after attempting to save a stranger being mauled by a monstrous bear. But for the former Ghost of Sparta, no good deed goes unpunished.”
The first issue of the God of War prequel comic miniseries will release on November 14, 2018. It will be available for pre-order at participating retailers like Barnes & Noble and Amazon, as well as local comic book shops. It would be interesting to see if the prequel comic miniseries manages to fill in the blanks of the incredible tale crafted by the folks at Sony Santa Monica. Meanwhile, there are already several reports hinting at a potential God of War PS4 sequel, whether the sources are game director Cory Barlog himself or even a job listing.
