CI Games has announced Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts, which will take “the sniper series in a new direction.” It is slated to release for the PS4, Xbox One and PC sometime in 2019. The developer/publisher has confirmed that the upcoming game will feature both single-player and multiplayer modes, as well as introducing a brand new contracts system for the first time ever in the franchise.
According to the press release, CI Games will not be returning to the open-world gameplay originally introduced in 2017’s Sniper Ghost Warrior 3. Due to community feedback, Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts will instead feature the new contracts system in the single-player campaign, where players will be delving into “tailor-made contract missions.” Every contract mission will offer a clear main objective with a fixed monetary reward, with the option of secondary objectives for bonuses.
Additionally, players can repeat those contract missions to earn even more money, which means that there will be a high level of replayability in Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts. There will be “hundreds of ways to take down a wide range of targets,” with more focused maps set in the harsh wilderness of modern-day Siberia. The developer will also be using a more optimized game engine, with minimized loading times and a stable FPS. However, the press release did not mention if the game would reach a framerate of 60FPS.
CI Games CEO Marek Tyminski said: “We were too ambitious in terms of the scope of Sniper Ghost Warrior 3, but we’ve learned from our missteps. Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts will be more focused on emergent gameplay with an open-ended mission design that the team feels strongly about, but it will not be set in an open world. It is going to be a more tactical, more condensed experience and the game will offer plenty of replayability, both on the single-player campaign and on the multiplayer modes.”
Earlier in February 2018, CI Games announced that Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 sales managed to exceed one million copies worldwide. Despite that achievement, the developer had to lay off some of its staff in order to re-establish a smaller team of 30 people to work on a then-unannounced tactical shooter game, which we now know to be Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts.
