Reigns burst onto the scene in 2016 with its unique take on ruling a kingdom by swiping left or right in response to a variety of random and scripted medieval events. Wannabe rulers have to balance the competing considerations that come with kingdom-running in the game’s simplistic interface, and making the wrong move with your thumb could lead to catastrophic events. The stakes seem high in Reigns, but fans of the Devolver Digital title will be pleased to know that they’re about to get even higher; a Reigns Game of Thrones collab has just been revealed and is expected later on this year.
It’s been reported by Time Magazine that Reigns will turn its sight on the hit series Game of Thrones in October 2018 by releasing the next installment, Reigns: Game of Thrones.
While the main game has already received a facelift in the form of Reigns: Her Majesty where you play as a queen consort, this G.R.R. Martin-flavored release feels like it’s going to have much higher stakes. If you didn’t think that managing a kingdom based on a series of seemingly unconnected independent decisions was tricky enough, how many heads will roll once you add the dramatic, murderous high fantasy flair of Game of Thrones to the mix?
It looks like you’ll be tasked with controlling one of the few main monarchs from the series – you’ll get to pick between Daenerys Targaryen, Cersei Lannister, and Sansa Stark to name a few. Each will have their own approach to ruling and conflict management that will diverge wildly from whatever canon has already been established by the books and the movies, so it’s time to experience an even more buckwild version of Game of Thrones than has ever been possible. For those who are ardent fans of the series, Reigns: Game of Thrones looks too good to pass up. Devolver’s always done well with quirky titles that push us out of our comfort zone, and we’re betting that this will be one of them that charts particularly well.
