Asmodee Digital Brings Tabletop Games to the Switch

Asmodee Digital will be bringing digital versions of tabletop games Catan, Munchkin, Pandemic, and more to the Nintendo Switch. Announced during today’s Nintendo Direct, Asmodee will start releasing games this winter, starting with Carcassonne.

In a press release, Asmodee Digitial CMO Philippe Dao said, “Bringing our most popular titles to new platforms is a no-brainer, but we’re going a step above to make sure they are optimized for Nintendo Switch. The new audiences that await us on this platform are clear to us, and we’re glad to offer them the best of board games.”

Starting with Carcassonne this holiday season, Asmodee will begin to publish digital board games on the Switch. With up to four players locally, Carcassonne is a tile-based game where players build the world while playing. The ultimate goal is to lay claim to as much terrain as possible, holding terrain features like towns and bridges.

In 2019, The Lord of the Rings: Living Card Game will come to Switch. The “living-card game” based on J.R.R. Tolkein’s The Lord of the Rings novel features several story-driven quests. Currently there is an early access release of the game available on Steam for Windows and Mac OS X. That version of the game has card packs starting at $7.99, and range upwards of $40. Fantasy Flight Games launched The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game in 2011.

Asmodee also showcased Pandemic, which will release sometime later in 2019. Pandemic supports four-player local multiplayer and will have DLC available based on the tabletop games’ expansions. Players in Pandemic are tasked with stopping the spread of diseases around the world, working cooperatively to stop the deadly spread of various pandemics.

Catan and Munchkin were also announced for the Switch. No gameplay was shown of those titles, although they are expected to launch in 2019. Asmodee has not given any pricing information for any of its Switch releases as of yet.
