Bloodborne 2 PS5 News | Release date, leaks, will Bloodborne 2 ever happen?

Bloodborne 2 is one of the most highly-anticipated sequels in recent memory. The follow-up to the 2015 PS4 exclusive, a Bloodborne sequel would be huge for Sony, if it were to happen. This is why many have speculated a Bloodborne 2 PS5 release, but the question remains — will Bloodborne 2 ever happen?

Over the years, we’ve received snippets of information pertaining to Bloodborne 2, all while Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki and his studio From Software continues on with more Soulslike projects such as Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and the upcoming Elden Ring. So what does From Software have planned for the sequel? Has there been a Bloodborne 2 leak, or are we still left in the dark?

Here’s everything we know about Bloodborne 2:

Bloodborne 2 PS5 release date?

bloodborne 2 release date news

Bloodborne has been one of the PS4’s biggest success stories, but with the console now nearing the end of its life cycle, it’s projected that a Bloodborne 2 PS5 release would be the most logical course of action for From Software.

Realistically, From Software would struggle to fit in a Bloodborne 2 PS4 launch. The developer is currently working on Elden Ring, its upcoming action RPG created in collaboration with Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin.

Elden Ring currently doesn’t even have a release date, with only a small teaser offered at E3 2019. With the game not being that far in development, this would mean that Bloodborne 2 would still be a ways off. As such, it’s likely that if a sequel were to happen, it would be released on the PS5.

Will Bloodborne 2 be a PS5 launch game?

The PS5 launch date has not been revealed, though the popular theory is that it will be released in 2020. It seems likely that it will launch around the holiday season, with many believing that it will make its way to store shelves in November 2020, mirroring the PS4’s release date.

Bloodborne 2 November 2020 seems optimistic at best. That would require From Software to have completed and launched Elden Ring in that time, along with having already started up development on Bloodborne 2 and complete the sequel in under a year, too.

Bloodborne 2 release date and rumors

The Bloodbornerelease date clearly won’t happen in Q4 2019, with its earliest possible release window being 2021, given From Software’s work on Elden Ring.

As far as we know, From Software is not working on the game at the time of this writing. It was previously believed that an announcement would take place during E3 2018 after multiple teases of a new game, though the developer instead stuck to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

Of course, Sekiro isn’t Bloodborne 2, so those hoping for a follow-up to the PS4 exclusive were disappointed that it wasn’t even hinted at during that year’s E3. With Bloodborne creator Hidetaka Miyazaki now working on Elden Ring, this means that a Bloodborne sequel is unlikely to be announced in the near future.

Bloodborne 2 Leaks | Reddit and YouTube Easter Eggs and theories

With From Software focusing on Elden Ring, there hasn’t been a great deal of info regarding a potential Bloodborne sequel. The biggest clue that the game could be on its way came from an Amazon Italy listing, with Bloodborne 2 popping up on the site alongside Splinter Cell and a Dreams release date.

Unfortunately, the Amazon Italy listing isn’t particularly trustworthy. The online retailer is known for putting up placeholder listings regardless of whether or not a game is actually in production, and it listed Dreams with a February 22, 2019 release date, which has now been and gone.

Deracine Bloodborne 2 Easter Egg

The most confident theories have instead stemmed from the Bloodborne community. In a YouTube video from VaatiVidya, a theory surrounding the From Software VR game Deracine is outlined.

Deracine features a statue called the Seafaring Sage, which contains the following description:

“A statuette of a seafaring sage that appears in an unfinished tale.

It is said to appear in bad dreams, to watch over those who attempt to leave.”

VaatiVidya compares the scene featuring the Seafaring Sage to the Childhood’s Beginning ending in Bloodborne, which depicts The Doll cradling the player after they’ve become an infant Great One, which bears a striking resemblance to the statue. The Bloodborne scene is also referenced in Deracine‘s ending.

As the YouTube video notes, Bloodborne being referred to as an “unfinished tale” suggests that a new game could be on its way:

Bloodborne 2 PC or Switch port

Dark Souls Remastered has shown that From Software is open to releasing its games on the Nintendo Switch. However, a Bloodborne 2 Switch port is less likely, given how the Dark Souls game were multi-platform while Bloodborne was exclusive to the PS4.

Bloodborne 2 PS4, PC, Switch, Xbox release

Microsoft and Nintendo have been unlikely collaborators, with the two rival hardware manufacturers teaming up for a commercial advertising Minecraft‘s cross-play. With Sony Interactive Entertainment publishing the first Bloodborne, it will need From Software to have moved away from this exclusivity deal in order to release Bloodborne 2 elsewhere.

If it does go multi-platform, PC and Xbox One versions are much more likely, given how previous Souls games have released on the platforms. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was also released on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, so it’s hoped that if a sequel does come to fruition, it will also release on multiple platforms.

Will Bloodborne 2 ever happen?

Sekiro Trailer

There’s no definitive answer on whether or not Bloodborne 2 will happen. From Software’s Hidetaka Miyazaki gave a slight hint to Spanish website Xataka regarding its status, which can be read below:

“Okay, yes. Actually, this is exactly the conversation that my team and I had. It’s the kind of conversation we keep during development, because there are Easter eggs … However … The easter egg in itself is not indicative that we are going to launch Bloodborne 2. I’m not in a position to talk about a possible release of Bloodborne 2 However, we love Bloodborne; that’s why this easter egg has aroused so much curiosity. But, I repeat, it’s not a Bloodborne 2 notice. It’s just something that we explored among ourselves, because we love Bloodborne.”

Miyazaki’s comments suggest that there isn’t much to the Deracine Easter Eggs, even though they seemed like solid evidence of an eventual Bloodborne 2 release date. We’ll just have to wait and see if From Software ever confirms that Bloodborne 2 is on its way.
