Hirai: Vita Sales Are “On The Low End Of What We Expected”

There's no denying the fact that the PlayStation Vita is one heck of an amazing piece of hardware. Unfortunately for Sony, however, there simply haven't been enough compelling titles for the average gamer to justify shelling out $250 for the device, especially now that smartphone gaming has totally taken over.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Sony CEO Kaz Hirai acknowledged this fact at a reception following a CES presentation, saying that Vita sales are "on the low end of what we expected." Hirai was quick to follow that statement by saying that the company isn't losing hope in the handheld's success, noting that "long term is what is important."

Do you think the Vita will make a turnaround in the coming years? Let's not forget that the PS3 got off to a relatively slow start before it picked up steam later in its life. Sounds off with your thoughts in the comments below.
