Publisher PQube has revealed that an Our World Is Ended western release is forthcoming. The visual novel will be fully localized. It will be released on PC, PS4, and the Nintendo Switch. Originally launched on the PS Vita, the game was exclusive to Japan until this announcement. It will launch sometime in 2019.
The Our World Is Ended western release will be available physically for both PS4 and the Nintendo Switch. This localization will feature both English and Japanese text support. This means that the voice acting will not be localized for western audiences. It was first launched in November of 2017 in Japan.
Our World Is Ended follows the exploits of an AR video game development team called Judgement 7, as their technology begins to wreak havoc. When the protagonist Reiji tried the team’s program in the real world, he finds that “he catches a glimpse of an unsettling cityscape” according to the official website. This leads to various characters and creatures from previous games made by Judgement 7 leaking into the real world.
The gameplay for the title follows the tried and true formula of the visual novel genre. However, the official site boasts that it will have a “faithful recreation of Asakusa, one of Tokyo’s most iconic districts.” Furthermore, there is a key feature called “The Interactive Selection of Soul System.” This will activate during important story moments when the protagonist is “flustered.” When this happens, “his emotions will flow onto the screen before vanishing.” Players will need to “quickly react” to this and depending on their choices, the dialogue and story will change.
The developers, Red-Entertainment, are possibly most famous for the NES game Bonk. However, their recent works include the Sakura Taisen series, Record of Agarest War, and the Fossil Fighter series. Our World is Ended originally launched in November of 2017.
