Crash Team Racing is getting a remaster just as the first three Crash Bandicoot games did last year. The CTR remake, titled Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, was announced at The Game Awards 2018 alongside a trailer and we even got a release date to boot. Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is set for June 21, 2019. The game will be coming to Switch, PS4, and Xbox One and is being developed by Beenox, whose most recent work was the PC version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.
The approach to the CTR remaster seems to be similar to what we saw in Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. The characters, tracks, carts, and arenas will all be updated visually and the gameplay will remain the same as the original. All the content seen in the PS1 original will be included, and Crash and company will still take on the evil alien Nitros Oxide in an attempt to prevent Earth from being turned into a parking lot.
All the modes from the original CTR will return in Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled as well. Adventure, Single Race, Time Trials, Cup Race, and Battle Mode will all be available in the remaster. A new addition to the game will allow you to play against others online, and the game still retains local multiplayer as well.
Thomas Wilson, Co-Studio Head at Beenox stated:
“The love that fans have for Crash Team Racing goes beyond just a fun kart racing game, and we’re excited to finally show fans what we’ve been working on to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Not only are we revamping Crash Team Racing from the kart up in Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, we are giving fans a whole lot more including all the characters and tracks they love, with tons of added animations and personality that the original platform just couldn’t convey. We can’t wait to see fans go head-to-head as they test their Crash kart racing mettle in online multiplayer.”
Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled pre-orders start today. The standard edition will retail for $39.99 or fans can purchase the Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled – Nitros Oxide Edition for $59.99. The Nitros Oxide Edition will include Nitros Oxide as a playable character from the start of the game in all modes, Oxide’s kart, and space-themed skins for many of the game’s characters. While the skins seem to be exclusive to the Nitros Oxide Edition, you can earn Nitros Oxide and his kart in-game by playing through Adventure Mode.
