The time is near to dive back into the realm of minds. Psychonauts 2 is targeting a 2019 release according to an announcement at The Game Awards. Developed by the team at Double Fine Productions and published by Starbreeze, Psychonauts 2 is a 3D platformer where you play as Razputin. He’s fresh to the Psychonauts corp after the events of the original 2005 classic.
In this sequel, you’ll see Razputin’s story as he becomes an international psychic super-spy. In other words, fulfilling his goal of becoming a Psychonaut. Raz joins the team at a critical moment. A mole has infiltrated the group with plans to bring back legendary bad guys. Raz must dive into history by his lonesome, exploring the secrets of his family and the organization that he now calls home.
The trailer gives us a rare glimpse at some gameplay. It really looks like Double Fine has captured the gameplay style of the original game, for better or worse. Since 3D platformers are still a rarity nowadays in the late 2010s, this game will assuredly be a welcome addition for fans of the genre.
Psychonauts 2 is set to release on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 sometime in 2019. For more about the game and its funding, be sure to visit its official Fig site.
