‘Backpack Kid’ Sues Epic Games Over Floss Dance Move In Fortnite

Fortnite is now facing a number of lawsuits concerned with dance moves found in the game that appear similar to other well-known dances. The Backpack Kid is the latest to sue Epic Games claiming some form of ownership over a specific dance.

According to TMZ, Backpack Kid’s mom is suing both Epic and NBA 2K19 publisher 2K Games over the “Floss” move that he allegedly popularized being featured in the game. The report indicates that he’s in the process of copyrighting the dance. He also wants a judge to stop the companies from using the moves in their games.

Interestingly enough, it was only a few months ago that Backpack Kid told TMZ himself that he wasn’t bothered by Fortnite using the move. He wanted some royalties, but told them that it wasn’t that big of a deal.

Backpack Kid is following the heels of Fresh Prince of Bel Air star Alfonso Ribeiro who has also sued both 2K Games and Epic for using a dance move that is very similar to the dance he popularized in the 90’s sitcom, to the point of it even going under the name “Fresh.”

The first person to sue Epic over dance moves was rapper 2 Milly earlier this month, who is claiming that his “Milly Rock” move is in the game without his permission. Like Backpack Kid, he doesn’t have the dance copyrighted but is in the process of getting that done.

Carolynn Kyungwon Beck and David Hecht of Pierce Bainbridge Beck Price & Hecht are representing Backpack Kid, Alfonso Ribeiro, and 2 Milly in the lawsuits.

The moves to sue Epic and 2K Games over the dance moves may not be over just yet. Scrubs star Donald Faison isn’t happy about Fortnite using a dance move he popularized on that show, as the “Poison” dance move he used can be found in the game. He hasn’t indicated if he will sue as of yet.
