Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs To Terrify Gamers This Summer

Get in some sleep while you can.

Frictional Games has announced that Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs will release during Q2 of 2013. This follows a recent delay from a Halloween 2012 release date, and an explanation of the delay has been posted on the developer's site which states the following:

Originally we thought it would be a short, experimental game set in the universe of Amnesia, but thechineseroom had a vision that was bigger than that. As their work progressed, the potential for a much greater project emerged. What we ended up with is no longer what we had first imagined, but a fully fledged Amnesia game. A different kind of Amnesia, but definitely not a short experiment.

The team's previous title, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, had a similar amount of time put into its creation but had fewer resources. Even then, the result was one of the most terrifying games experiences in history. But that's not to say that it was just about cheap scares. Its design, from the carefully mapped levels to its "sanity" mechanic, were a huge leap for the horror genre. Truthfully, it was reminiscent of how Silent Hill was able to be psychologically disturbing in a pervasively methodical way.

What this means for Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs is that its development team is extremely talented, and to expect anything less than a unique and horrifying game would be a mistake. If you enjoy the challenge of scary games, mark your calendar. If not, prepare to see YouTube videos of gamers screaming like little girls when the game releases this Summer.
