Battlefront 2 Obi-Wan dab emote

Battlefront 2 Obi-Wan dab emote leaves developer unimpressed

Battlefront 2 Obi-Wan dab emote has popped up on the /r/StarWarsBattlefront subreddit and the community is going kind of nuts about it. You see, the idea of an Obi-Wan dab has been a bit of a joke for the last several weeks ever since Ben Walke of the Star Wars team commented on a bit of fan art from December of last year.

The community seems to have taken this commentary as a license to have the Jedi Master dabbing in every conceivable situation. This instance on Reddit has already caused a couple of responses from Ben Walke. Mr. Walke has affirmed his belief that this is not a dab but rather that Obi-Wan is merely “protecting his magnificent beard from the flames.” One could surmise that his anti-dab agenda may very well be clouding his judgment. (Perhaps the Dark Side of the Force is involved?)

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is certainly no stranger to weird emotes and this fan request isn’t all that out of character. The dance from the Kinect Star Wars Han Solo song made it in as an official emote not too long ago. A silly cultural meme like the dab wouldn’t entirely be out of place for a bit of fluff being added to the game. General Kenobi had joined the game in last month’s update and it hasn’t taken very long for the community to make an amusing request, it seems.

While a segment of the fanbase is certainly enamored by the Obi-Wan dab, the game’s community manager still seems somewhat opposed to it. Still, there are quite a few Star  Wars/r/PrequelMemes fans who like to go crazy with the memes. After all, has over 800,000 subscribers and hits Reddit’s /r/all page on a regular basis. The whole Obi-Wan dab thing might seem a bit silly, but it also might be an opportunity for EA to earn back a bit of community goodwill by having a good sense of humor.
