Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled Gameplay

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled gameplay video released

In advance of the release date on July 21, a Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled gameplay video has been released. The video showcases the return of the beloved characters of the Crash series. Each character gets a moment to shine. We see them zipping around a range of climates with the new and improved graphics taking center stage.

The developer this time around seems like a natural fit. Beenox is a Canadian studio which previously partnered with Activision and Vicarious Visions, developers of the Crash Bandicoot remake, to create the Skylanders games. The video provides a look into the fine work Beenox has done in updating the graphics. In this early video, the graphics don’t appear to match up to those seen in Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy, and the trailer’s 30 FPS lock is a little jarring for a racer, but they are still a clear improvement on the original PS1 game.

Despite the video title, the clip offers little in the way of gameplay from a player’s perspective. The video is more like an in-engine trailer. While some may find this disappointing, others will no doubt appreciate another look at the remake, regardless of the point of view.

This Crash Team Racing remake follows on from the success of the other recent Activision published games: Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy and Spyro Reignited Trilogy. The move makes complete sense for the publisher, especially considering the dedicated following of Crash Team Racing as an alternative to Mario Kart.

The game will find competition in Team Sonic Racing, which releases a month earlier on May 21. It will be interesting to see if Crash’s Sega rival can steal attention away from the Nitro-Fueled release. Is there room for both mascots’ kart racers? We’ll find out soon enough as the release dates come ever closer.
