The Last of Us Part 2 release date seems to be edging closer, with the PlayStation Store moving the Naughty Dog sequel into the “Coming Soon” section. No further details are provided, but the game sits alongside many titles which are set to be released imminently such as Days Gone and Mortal Kombat 11.
The listing was discovered by Reddit user “fetemucke.” The addition of the game to the “Coming soon” section on the PlayStation US, UK, Germany, and Italy stores would appear to indicate the game is coming sooner rather than later. The last we saw of The Last of Us Part 2 was in an extremely violent trailer in late 2017. Since then various rumors and teases have occurred about the sequel’s release date. The game’s composer asserted it would be coming “very soon.” While a Peruvian retailer appeared to accidentally reveal The Last of Us Part 2 would be released in October 2019.
Along with eager fans looking for information, Naughty Dog itself appears to be finding ways to fill its time until the game’s release. In January, two directors from Naughty Dog discussed the friendly competition they have with other video games studios. While, shortly after, a third Naughty Dog director commented on player choice in Red Dead Redemption 2. Bruce Straley stated that he thought Rockstar’s cowboy sequel “punished me for thinking for myself instead of rewarding me.”
For some players, multiplayer was a significant part of the first The Last of Us game. A recent job listing appeared to reveal more about multiplayer in The Last of Us Part 2. GameRevolution gave its thoughts on what we hope to see in the sequel’s multiplayer offering.
More concrete release date details were released for game’s taking part in PlayStation’s first State of Play showcase. State of Play included the announcement of games like Iron Man VR and No Man’s Sky VR. The event was not well received by some.
