Final Fantasy 14 Shadowbringers Xbox One version spotted in Brazil

Final Fantasy 14 Shadowbringers Xbox One version has been spotted on a Brazilian game rating website, raising hopes of Square Enix fans who were eager to see the fantastical MMORPG make its way to Microsoft’s console. This is the first solid indication seen so far that Square Enix has managed to thread the needle in negotiations with Microsoft to get its game up and running on the Xbox One. Currently, Final Fantasy 14 is only available on the PC and PS4.

The rating is visible on Brazil’s Classificação Indicativa (Indicative Classification) from the nation’s Ministry of Justice, the organization primarily responsible for categorizing video games in the same way that the ESRB and PEGI do in the West. The rating states that the game is not recommended for children under the age of 12. Moreover, it notes that the game contains sexual content and violence.

Talks about a Final Fantasy 14 Xbox One version have been going on for some time. Producer Naoki Yoshida (affectionally known as Yoshi-P) originally stated in late 2017 that he was talking to Microsoft and Nintendo about getting Square Enix’s premier MMORPG onto the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, respectively. It seems that he has at least been successful on the Xbox One front so far.

Unfortunately, there still isn’t any news about a Nintendo Switch version. Considering the timing of the rating, I think it’s reasonable to assume that we’ll be hearing some kind of official announcement for a Final Fantasy 14 Xbox One version prior to the launch of the upcoming Shadowbringers expansion.

The users on ResetEra who brought up the Generación Xbox article noted that the latter site has had a good record when it comes to highlighting game announcements weeks or even months in advance. If the Classificação Indicativa is anything like the ESRB, we will probably hear an official announcement in the coming weeks. Final Fantasy 14 Shadowbringers is expected to launch on July 2, 2019.
