Microsoft changed the way be play games by introducing Achievements when the Xbox 360 first launched back in 2005. It appears that the company plans to take their point-based system one step further with the next Xbox by allowing developers to freely add additional Achievements following a game's launch.

Polygon is reporting that “With the next Xbox, developers and publishers will be able to add more achievements to a game after launch, without the need to add DLC. This is designed specifically to allow developers to tweak player behavior, perhaps urging players to check out specific areas of a game or get past a difficult spot.”

In addition, the outlet claims that the company is looking into cross-title Achievements, which, for example may reward a player "for finishing the first chapter in two different and unrelated games published by the same company." Support from cross-platform Achievements is also said to be in the works.
