Super Mario Maker 2 release date trailer gets creative

The Super Mario Maker 2 release date has been revealed, with a new trailer showing off the launch date for the game in a rather creative way. The Super Mario Maker games have always been about showing off your creativity and the fine folks at Nintendo have decided to leverage the game’s strengths into making a trailer that is both informative and entertaining.

Things kick off with Mario at the beginning of a custom-made level in Nintendo’s newest entry in this franchise. As Mario progresses through the level, we see the number 28 written with brick blocks. A little further on, the number 6 is revealed as Mario passes through a glass pipe. We then get to see “2019” written out with brick blocks, giving us the release date through the level itself. Finally, the Super Mario Maker release date trailer concludes when Mario lands on the top of the flagpole, doing a handstand before celebrating and revealing the release date once again.

If you haven’t had the chance to play a game from the Super Mario Maker franchise, you’re missing out on a lot of fun. The concept is pretty simple: players can build out a 2D level in the style of the classic Super Mario Bros. games. As an added bonus, the modern creation tools come with all of the modern frills that we’ve seen in the latest 2D titles from our favorite Italian plumber. Levels can then be saved and shared online for other people to play.

Nintendo has decided to leverage the creativity that’s possible with Super Mario Maker 2 and show off the release date for the game by building it into the level for the trailer. While the trailer itself is certainly short at only 30 seconds, players can and have created much longer and much more challenging experiences that are just as creative.

We previously heard that Super Mario Maker 2 would be coming sometime in June 2019 but we didn’t have a specific date until today. You can watch the Super Mario Maker 2 release date trailer for yourself below. Super Mario Maker 2 will launch on the Nintendo Switch on June 28, 2019. You’ll be able to get it on the Nintendo eShop.
