Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic movie in the works

A Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic movie is in the works. Writer Laeta Kalogridis is currently working on the script for the first film in what may become a Knights of the Old Republic trilogy. The news is music to the ears of movie and video game fans alike, as Knights of the Old Republic was one of the most beloved Star Wars games to hit consoles.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was released in 2003 to critical acclaim. The role-playing game lets the player, the last hope of the Jedi Order, decide the destiny of the galaxy by leading an uprising against the Republic and its leader Darth Malak. It was an immersive experience with unique characters, familiar planets, and staples of the Star Wars universe such as the Jedi, Sith Lords, and the Force. Fans loved the lore-rich story, taking place 4,000 years before the flagship Star Wars film A New Hope.

With Kalogridis rumored to be almost done with the first script of the potential trilogy, fans may finally see the Knights of the Old Republic in cinemas. When this would happen is unknown, but there are other Star Wars movies in the works to tide fans over. After the new J.J. Abrams film The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters this December, the next Star Wars film trilogy will release its first film in December 2022. That trilogy is directed by Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. Benioff and Weiss were rumored to have their hands in the Knights of the Old Republic film, though that remains disputed.

After the mediocre box office results from Solo, giving fans something as exciting to look forward to as Knights of the Old Republic would be a welcome piece of news. The film would also be the first Star Wars movie since The Empire Strikes Back to have a female writer, lending it a new and interesting perspective especially when sourced from a game that has some pretty butt-kicking female Jedi in it.
