Gears 5 panel gets awkward after fan asks what Kait’s sexual preference is

Gears 5 panel at E3 2019 got awkward after an audience member asked the panelists about the sexual preference of protagonist Kait. John DiMaggio, who plays Marcus Fenix in the Gears of War series, responded to the question by affecting a lisp, replying: “Is that your business, motherf***er?” before adding: “Maybe she’s a switch-hitter, who gives a f***?” a slang term meaning bisexual.

The moment happened during this year’s E3 Coliseum, with the Gears 5 panelists fielding audience questions. During the Q&A session, a male audience member asked for details regarding Kait’s sexuality, which prompted a brash response from DiMaggio.

After telling the fan to mind his own business, DiMaggio added: “What kind of nerd boy f***ing —’what is she doing?!'” while mimicking the audience member masturbating.

“Bro, I’m f***ing bringing it, I don’t care,” DiMaggio concluded. “If you want to ask questions like that, you’re going to get answers like that.”

WWE star and fellow panelist Xavier Woods then joined in, replying: “What’s important is that she’s here to shoot stuff.”

Though the fan may have intended to address LGBTQ representation in Gears 5 with his question, it wasn’t phrased particularly well and resulted in an embarrassing moment.

The E3 Coliseum takes place at The Novo, with it providing E3 attendees with three days of panels dedicated to the show’s games. The Gears 5 panel kicked off proceedings, with developer The Coalition’s Studio Head Rod Fergusson providing an inside look at the game, which was featured during the Microsoft E3 2019 press conference.

Gears 5 is set to launch on Xbox One and PC later this year, with a brand new 3-player Escape mode unveiled during the Xbox presentation, along with an interesting map builder modeGears 5 is Xbox’s marquee game for the year, though gameplay footage was missing during its E3 showcase, as has been a recurring theme at this year’s event.
