Oculus Rift Developer Andrew Scott Reisse Dead At 33

Andrew Scott Reisse, 33, who had been working with Oculus VR, died May 30, the victim of a hit-and-run during a police chase. Reisse was not involved in the cause of the chase, but rather an innocent pedestrian struck by the vehicle of the fleeing criminals.

Police were investigating suspicious activity when a fight broke out, both sides opening fire. Victor Sanchez, 21, along with two others, took to a white Dodge Charger in an attempt to flee. After multiple collisions with other cars, Sanchez's vehicle ran a red light and struck Reisse.

Oculus VR representatives said in a statement:

Andrew was a brilliant computer graphics engineer, an avid photographer and hiker who loved nature, a true loyal friend, and a founding member of our close-knit Oculus family.

Andrew's contributions span far and wide in the video game industry. His code is embedded in thousands of games played by millions of people around the world. Words can not express how sorely he will be missed or how deeply our sympathy runs for his family.

Investigations are ongoing and other details are still emerging, and not all suspects' names have been released.
