After delaying the game last year, Piranha Games has finally revealed the MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries release date. The long awaited Battletech mech simulator arrives on the Epic Games Store on December 10, 2019.
As part of a new development update on the game’s official site, Piranha Games has confirmed that MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries will be a timed exclusive on the Epic Games Store. In addition to this, it also shared details for any players looking to refund their preorders.
Players looking to refund the game, either because of its Epic Games Store exclusivity or because of other reasons, have until September 1 to do so. Those who do refund their preorders will still get to keep any bonus content for MechWarrior Online that they gained from preordering Mechwarrior 5 Mercenaries. This includes the various amounts of in-game currency, as well as items such as badges, decals, cockpit items and more that players gained based on the preorder tier they selected.
With that said, players who request a refund will not get to keep access to any DLC content for MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries that came with their preorder. More importantly, they will also lose access to the game’s upcoming closed beta test in November.
MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries represent the first single player MechWarrior game since 2002’s MechWarrior 4 Mercenaries. In the years since, the franchise has mostly focused on online battles with MechWarrior Online. As such, fans have been eagerly waiting for the game since it was first announced.
MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries becoming an Epic Games Store exclusive does add a bit of frustration for series followers. Epic’s new storefront and its penchant for garnering various exclusives has proved controversial with a number of gamers. In fact, several other game series have received backlash from fans after becoming Epic Games Store exclusive. Will Battletech fans do the same, or will they be fine with the move as long as they get to play MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries?
