The Last of Us 2 release date announced at PlayStation State of Play 2019

The Last of Us 2 release date was announced at the PlayStation State of Play 2019, with Sony revealing when the Naughty Dog sequel would finally make its way to the PS4.

The Last of Us 2 will release on February 21, 2020 on the PS4. This date was revealed during Sony’s State of Play 2019 presentation, which went live earlier today. The release date was announced in tandem with a brand new trailer, which revealed more of Ellie’s terrifying, post-apocalyptic adventures.

The new trailer depicted Ellie talking with a new, unnamed man, taking on horrifying “clickers,” rabid dogs, and even encountering Joel.

Yes, Joel is back. It seems that the theories surrounding him being dead are incorrect, as he appeared in the brand new trailer. Ellie and a notably more grey-haired Joel are depicted interacting at the end of trailer, with Ellie asking her former wasteland-roaming partner: “What are you doing here?”

It seems that tensions are high between the pair, which is understandable considering the conclusion of the last game. It’s unclear how this will be addressed in the sequel, but it seems that Naughty Dog is still dead-set on this being a grislier, darker sequel.
