Diablo 4 announcement Lilith

Diablo 4 announced at Blizzcon 2019

At today’s Blizzcon 2019 opening ceremony, Diablo 4 was officially announced. The hotly anticipated title looks to go back to the series roots with a darker atmosphere. The gameplay follows the previous titles in the series closely and looks to sate those who were disappointed in the direction Diablo 3 took the franchise.

The cinematic shown definitely marks a return to form as a group of bandits attempt to plunder a temple they’re trapped. The group is drained of their blood to summon Lilith, the Daughter of Hatred. I personally haven’t followed the Diablo lore too hard, so I didn’t really remember Lilith. Most players probably remember her as a boss in the Pandemonium Event. However, she does play a bigger part. She’s the daughter of Mephisto, which means she’s big daddy Diablo’s niece. She’s queen of the Succubi and her union with the archangel Inarius led to the birth of the first nephalem. In turn, the nephalem gradually turned into humans.

So, Lilith created humanity in a roundabout way, but according to the cinematic, she’s not too fond of them. There’s blood magic going on, and all sorts of wacky things for which we have no explanation at this time.

We also learned that Diablo 4 is coming to PC, PS4, and Xbox One. We didn’t get a firm release date, but we got to see some gameplay. I guess that’ll have to tide us over for now.
