Mobius Final Fantasy sad

Mobius Final Fantasy is Shutting Down Forever This Year

After less than three years on SteamMobius Final Fantasy will be ending service for the worldwide version of the game later this year. The Japanese version of Mobius Final Fantasy already shut down in the end of 2019.

ALSO: The Marvel’s Avengers delay by Square Enix is the right move

If you’ve never played this game, it essentially launched as a scaled-down Final Fantasy experience for mobile devices. After some time, it migrated its way to Steam with upgrades in graphics and changes to the control to suit the medium.

Despite being a free-to-play title, it seems that Square Enix doesn’t think it’s been going well enough for them to keep the lights on. As noted in this /r/Games submission, an announcement was pushed out via official channels:

Greetings, Warriors of Light.

Thank you for playing and supporting MOBIUS FINAL FANTASY throughout the years.

After many difficult discussions, Square Enix ended service for the Japanese version of MOBIUS FINAL FANTASY in December 2019, after the Warrior of Despair story concluded.

Service for the global version of the game will continue until the Warrior of Despair story has concluded on June 30, 2020, at 6:00 pm PDT (UTC-7), at which time service for it, too, will end.

Here are the major milestones for the gradual shutdown:

  • March 31, 2020, 11:00 PM: End of Magicite sales
  • June 30, 2020, at 9:00 PM: End of service

If you’re curious about the game, you can still play it for free on Steam.
