We’ve all had that weird friend over the years, but a really strange friendship has popped up on the Internet. Doom Eternal and Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans are bonding over their shared release date of March 20, 2020.
A few months back, March 2020 was viewed as a kind of hell month for gamers. Potential releases included Doom Eternal, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Making things worse, Cyberpunk 2077 was just around the corner.

However, both Cyberpunk 2077 and the Final Fantasy 7 Remake were pushed back a few months, leaving only Doom and Animal Crossing as the big games releasing during this time period. In recent days, the two very different fanbases have taken notice of one another and things are getting a little… weird.

One of the things that kicked this whole thing off is the recent announcement of an upcoming Nintendo Direct for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The official Doom account responded, and that set off a long chain of memes.

“The [Doom] community is so kind!” read a comment by /u/KOROK_YAHAHA on the /r/AnimalCrossing subreddit, echoing the positively wholesome response to the shared release dates. “Check their subreddit and [there’s] loads of cute crossover fan art[.]”
“I love this crossover,” read a /r/Doom subreddit comment by /u/steveanonymous. “This is the best crossover[.]”
Perhaps even more hilarious is the growing desire for there to be some sort of crossover between the two games. While many have expressed their doubts that Nintendo would allow anything related to Doom in their game, many have agreed that the folks at iD Software are crazy enough to throw in some kind of easter egg into Doom Eternal.
