The Tokyo Game Show was a busy place — in fact, it keeps getting busier every year. The 2012 show was a record-setter itself with 223,753 total visitors in four days. (The first two days are always much lower than the second two, because they are exclusive to developers and media.) This year's show, however, is quite likely to top it. On the second day, we fancy members of the media, in between drinking perfume out of gold chalices, were told the the first day's attendence had hit well over 29,000; a significant jump from last year's first-day mark of 27,301.
With the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, the slim Vita model, an excess of chains, and Vita TV attracting a lot of attention, it's not likely that the second media day saw much of a reduction. There usually is a drop on day two, but it didn't seem too severe this year. As I was there, I can tell you a lot of us were wishing the floor were open longer; we were busy as heck trying to get to everything.
As for the public days, well, here's the line outside of the show…
It wrapped around the damn block and across the street. Good thing an additional hall was open this year.
I think the numbers will be good; and again, given the presence of consoles that won't be out for at least five months, another record breaking performance is a definite possibility. We'll report the official numbers as soon as we receive final word.
