Cuphead PS4 version stop-motion trailer

Cuphead PS4 version arrives today with a cute stop-motion trailer

Cuphead PS4 version is arriving today on the PlayStation Store, finally bringing this throwback platformer to Sony’s mainline console.

The announcement was made as part of Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest. A short interview talked about the upcoming Cuphead Netflix show and the challenges of making a game with traditional animation styles before we got the big announcement: Cuphead is coming to PS4.

The reveal was accompanied by another form of old-school animation: stop motion. As the PlayStation Blog post notes, Toronto-based studio Stop Motion Department created the slightly creepy animation using old school techniques. There weren’t any high-end computer analysis techniques or sneaky CGI rendering here — they animated the characters frame-by-frame and hoped for the best, just like the original artists did in the early 20th century.

You can check out the Cuphead PS4 version trailer below, though you may want to avert the eyes of any small children lest you give them nightmares. You should be able to pick up Cuphead on the PlayStation Store at some point later today.
