A desire for more polish and quality will see the Deathloop release date delayed beyond its original December 2020 launch date. Now, Arkane says that we’re going to have to wait another six months for Deathloop to come out at the minimum.
Why was the Deathloop release date delayed? Simply put, Arkane believes that it needs more time to deliver a quality product. That fact — combined with the challenges of work-from-home — has resulted in a new release window of Q2 2021.
“Our ambition for Deathloop is to deliver a signature Arkane game that takes you to never-before-seen places in a stylish new world,” read a statement on the game’s official Twitter.
“At the same time, the health and safety of everyone at Arkane Lyon remains our top priority,” the statement continued. “As we’ve adjusted to work-from-home, we found that delivering this new and exciting experience, at the polish and quality level that defines both an Arkane game and a true next-gen experience, is taking longer than normal.”
The reasons that made the Deathloop release date delayed are certainly understandable — you only get one shot at a game launch. If your product isn’t ready for primetime, it certainly shows; disasters like the SimCity 2015 server troubles and Assassin’s Creed Unity’s disappearing faces are surely at the back of developer’s minds.
Deathloop was first revealed at E3 2019. It certainly looks like it’s going to be a ton of fun — one of many reasons why we think it’s an especially promising future release. Arkane has done solid work with the Dishonored games and fan expectations for this brand-new game are surely high.
While the news of Deathloop’s release date being pushed back may be disappointing, it’s ultimately for the best. Arkane promises to have an update about the game “soon” — hopefully, it will show us something that will make the wait worthwhile.
