Bravely Default Producer Wants To Destroy Something Beautiful

Drive me far away.

And I don't care where, just far.

Away.

And I don't care where, just far.

I hate the game industry so much.

Square Enix's 3DS RPG Bravely Default has seen great critical reception and solid performance in the marketplace. Naturally, this leads it right down the road to destruction, as producer Tomoya Asano now states that he wants yearly releases out of this cash cow. In an interview with Japanese gaming magazine Dengeki, Asano discusses the next Bravely game and remarks:

"I’m aiming to release a game for the Bravely series at least once a year."

Forgive my concern, but this is where many game franchises break a hip, get pneumonia and die. It worked in earlier days of gaming when development wasn't as complex and didn't take as long, but these days, I see too many problems with annual titles. Some studios can pull that off, but success with that tends to require a budget much higher than I imagine Bravely Default ever seeing.

On the upside, my wife has finished the original version of Bravely Default, and I've been playing the English version with all its many updates, and we both feel like it's the best Final Fantasy game in a long time. So at least there's that.
