Halo Infinite Split-Screen Co-op Canceled as 343 Industries ‘Reallocates Resources’

Halo Infinite‘s split-screen co-op mode has been canceled, as 343 Industries has announced it will be reallocating its resources in order to focus on player feedback and quality of life updates. In a major disappointment for those who have waited for the update since Halo Infinite launched in late 2021, playing through its campaign in couch co-op will no longer be possible.

343 Industries’ statement on Halo Infinite’s co-op cancelation

343 Industries released a statement revealing why it was pulling the plug on Halo Infinite’s planned split-screen mode, noting that it was looking to invest in other areas instead.

“In order to improve and accelerate ongoing live service development, and to better address player feedback and quality of life updates, we have reallocated studio resources and are no longer working on local campaign split-screen co-op,” the studio said. (via IGN).

This statement came alongside the reveal that its long-awaited Forge mode would launch in beta on November 8, 2022 — nearly a full year since the game was first released. Forge will be launched as part of the game’s Winter Update, which will also include online multiplayer for its campaign, a new Battle Pass, and two new maps for its PvP multiplayer.

Many held out on completing Halo Infinite’s campaign at launch in order to eventually play it with their friends, with split-screen co-op being a staple of Halo games. This new move is unlikely to please players who have held off on diving into its single-player mode, especially given the reasons given revolve around addressing player feedback and providing updates — things that many would have expected anyway.

In other news, Diablo 4, Overwatch 2, and Call of Duty have been confirmed for Xbox’s Game Pass service. Also, insiders have claimed that the Nintendo Switch will be receiving a whole bunch of GameCube remasters.
