EA Announces New Battlefield Game, Battlefield Hardline

Electronic Arts has teased the next Battlefield game just ahead of the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles and this new title from Visceral Games (as opposed to franchise developer DICE) features cops and robbers, as opposed the strict military affairs from past Battlefield games.

Battlefield Hardline was codenamed Omaha through development, as reflected in the video leaked and saved by GameSpot. The title has been confirmed, but the video continues to be removed from hosting sites on the Internet meaning it probably isn't final and that we can expect different details at E3.

The game's story focuses on Nic Mendoza and seems to mimic cop dramas with players forced to decide which side of the law they're on when the team uncovers a stash of cocaine. The title will apparently feature a few new multiplayer modes for Battlefield:

  • Heist pits cops against robbers
  • Rescue features hostages, not unlike specific Counter-Strike maps
  • Hotwire features vehicles
  • Bloodmoney forces two teams to fight over cash

We'll know more once we see the game at E3. Stick with GameRevolution for more Electronic Arts coverage at gaming's biggest tradeshow.
