Battlefield 6 developer EA has reportedly laid off staff months after it became the best-selling game in the US in 2025. Notably, EA, short for Electronic Arts, laid off employees at Criterion, Dice, Ripple Effect, and Motive Studios, which together form the Battlefield Studios. The decision to lay off employees is reportedly part of a “realignment” across Battlefield studios.
EA has reportedly announced layoffs after record-breaking Battlefield 6 launch
After a successful game launch, Battlefield 6 developer EA announced that they have laid off staff across various verticals. Notably, all four studios will remain operational. However, the layoffs have reportedly impacted teams and their daily functioning.
An EA spokesperson told IGN, “We’ve made select changes within our Battlefield organization to better align our teams around what matters most to our community. Battlefield remains one of our biggest priorities, and we’re continuing to invest in the franchise, guided by player feedback and insights from Battlefield Labs.”
Battlefield 6 was off to a great start. It was reportedly the best-selling game of 2025 in the US, going past Call of Duty. It is estimated to have sold over 20 million copies. The popular game sold 7 million copies in the first three days. In fact, during the launch in October last year, EA called the game a “record-breaking success” and confirmed it was one of the “biggest gaming and entertainment launches of the year” (via Gadgets 360).
However, the game was soon hit by multiple challenges. When it was launched, the stream concurrents hit a huge 747,440 peak, but in no time, it declined significantly. The reviews have deteriorated from “Mostly Positive” to “Mixed,” with avid gamers complaining about multiple issues plaguing Battlefield 6. In fact, in January, the team delayed the launch of Season 2 to fix existing issues and recently put out a three-month update roadmap (via Dexerto).
