Hi-Fi Rush Studio Founder Shinji Mikami Is Leaving Tango Gameworks After 12 Years

A company-wide email recently issued — and confirmed authentic by Bethesda — announced the upcoming departure of Tango Gameworks founder Shinji Mikami. Having most recently helped produce January’s hit rhythm-action game and surprise shadow drop Hi-Fi Rush, Mikami also leaves behind a strong legacy of games at Tango in the Evil Within series and Ghostwire: Tokyo.

Mikami, a legendary game designer in his own right, directed the original Resident Evil and RE4 games and helped produce many other notable titles such as Dino Crisis and Viewtiful Joe before moving on to start Tango Gameworks in 2010, which was then acquired by ZeniMax.

In the announcing company address detailing the departure, the senior VP of Development at Bethesda Todd Vaughan commended Mikami’s contributions over his 12-year tenure, stating Hi-Fi Rush in particular to be one of the most successful launches for Bethesda and Xbox in recent years.”

While only serving an executive producer role over Hi-Fi Rush in a less hands-on capacity, the game’s overwhelming success on Xbox Game Pass is a well-deserved high to leave on, with many wondering what’s coming next for the acclaimed director.

In other news, Joshua Ortega has confirmed his presence on the writing team for Gears of War 6, and No Man’s Sky’s latest 4.1 update has just launched, revealing PSVR 2 support in the game.
