Xbox Game Pass $1 Trial Removed Before Starfield’s Release

With just over a week to go, all eyes are on Starfield, but if you were hoping to get the trial version of Xbox Game Pass in time for the game’s release, you’ll be disappointed.

You’ll need to pay the full amount

As spotted by Twitter user Wario64, Microsoft has removed the option to pay $1 to try out Game Pass. Indeed, if you head to the website itself, you’ll see that the trial is nowhere to be seen, meaning newcomers must now pay the full amount for their first month.

This comes just weeks after it was noted that Microsoft was offering a two-week Xbox Game Pass trial for $1 instead of the usual month. Again, it’s perhaps not a coincidence that this was done in the run-up to Starfield‘s launch.

Some people who were hoping to take advantage of the introductory offer may be a little peeved about it being removed entirely now. It’s likely that a lot of potential players were hoping to play Bethesda’s upcoming sci-fi RPG for cheap. Now, that’s no longer the case.

From a business perspective, it does sort of make sense. Starfield is not only one of the most anticipated games of this generation, it’s also a Microsoft/Xbox exclusive. As such, the tech company probably doesn’t want people only paying $1 for it.

Many have been anticipating Bethesda’s first new IP in over 25 years. We don’t know whether it’s going to be worth the wait or not, but if you do want to check it out on Game Pass, you won’t be able to sign up for a trial anymore. Whether Microsoft will reinstate it afterward cannot be said at this stage.

Starfield will be released on September 6 for Xbox Series X|S and PC.
