Doom Eternal: an open-mouthed Cacodemon about to attack the player.

Doom Eternal May Be Getting Official Mod Support Soon

For a while, many Doom Eternal fans have been hoping for official mod support to come to at least the PC version of the game. Right now, there’s a possibility this could come to fruition in the not-too-distant future.

Doom modding is as old as time

According to a recent report from WCCFTech, there have been updates to the changelog of Doom Eternal, as noted by SteamDB. One interesting entry in the list is where it says it’s added the executable “DoomModPortal.exe.”

There’s also been something called “Launch modPortal” that’s also been uploaded. These changes occurred just yesterday, and it sort of suggests that the latest Doom game will finally be getting mod support.

It should be noted that there’s been no confirmation on this from id Software, Bethesda, or any other company officially associated with the game at the time of writing. For now, we can only speculate, but the inclusion of these mod-based tools, according to SteamDB, does suggest modding is inbound.

Released in 2020, Doom Eternal picked up where the highly acclaimed 2016 reboot left off. Once again perfecting a heavy mix of modern gaming visuals with old-school high-octane FPS action, the latest entry in the iconic series shows there’s still life left in the franchise.

Many will be holding out that a new Doom will be on the horizon. Currently, we don’t know what id Software has planned. There have been speculations that a new Quake game – or possibly a remake – could be in the pipeline. But we’ll just have to wait and see what the studio has planned.
