LEGO Free Pokémon Gift Will Cost You Over $200 on eBay

Pokémon fans may have to fork out a significant amount of money if they wish to get their hands on a specific Lego set that was initially launched as a free gift. The Kanto badge collection, which Lego had positioned as a GWP (Gift With Purchase), is reportedly fetching upwards of $200 on secondhand retailer websites.

LEGO free Pokémon gift reselling for over $200 on eBay

Lego fanatics are currently selling the Kanto badge collection on sites like eBay with prices ranging between $200 and $300, despite the Pokémon product being a gift that comes with the higher-valued Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise builds.

Notably, Pokémon fans who want the Kanto badge collection for themselves can only do so by purchasing the Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise build, as Lego does not sell the much sought-after badges separately. Additionally, purchasing the primary set would cost a jaw-dropping $649.99. The limited stock of the said collectible, combined with high demand, has resulted in a rapid depletion of supply. This has prompted a host of Pokémon enthusiasts to simply purchase the Kanto badge collection from secondary marketplaces at a higher-than-warranted, yet overall lower price.

The in-demand GWP features Lego versions of all eight Gym Badges from Pokémon Red and Blue’s Kanto region, alongside a blue-colored display case. The Kanto Badge build includes a total of 312 individual pieces. Interestingly, Lego sets of a similar size usually demand a price of somewhere between $35 and $50, which is significantly less than the range that the Kanto badge collection is reselling for.

Despite Pokémon fans being willing to pay well over what the Kanto badge collection is actually worth, Lego has not announced any plans to sell the collectible separately. A cheaper alternative to owning the set could be to look for individual pieces and purchase them one by one. Nevertheless, consumers cannot purchase every brick type this way, which would leave their DIY Kanto badge collection incomplete.
