Always Online Is Already Affecting For Honor

The closed beta for For Honor has officially begun today, so you can hop on and engage in medieval warfare with Samurai's and Vikings and the like.

That is … if you can connect. For Honor is an always-online game, meaning you have to be able to sign in to both the console online services and the publisher's online services in order to play. Attempting to sign in to your Ubisoft Club account gives you the error "Oops! Sorry, Ubisoft Club is not currently available. Please try again later. For more information, visit 'www.ubisoft.com/support.'"

Of course, a quick stop over to Ubisoft Support's Twitter account reveals the root of this problem: server connection issues.

While many people shrugged their shoulders at For Honor's controversial "always online" requirement, this is bad omen for things to come that the first day of Closed Beta access is already being affected by it.

This two-day beta period is becoming even more farcical when you realize that this was the second time today that server issues have affected the ability to play For Honor's beta (reminding you again, that we are only a few hours in to the first day). Earlier, the For Honor Twitter account confirmed that PSN was experiencing connectivity issues that kept people from playing their game.

In fairness, the purpose of this closed beta is primarily to experience the multiplayer portion of the game, which would require online connectivity. That being said, should these server issues continue, you simply won't be able to play or practice any portion of For Honor after launch whenever either Ubisoft of PSN is experiencing issues.

The argument has always been that, once you actually play For Honor, you'll fall in love with it. But Ubisoft themselves have been making that very difficult.
