Letter From The (New) Editor: Tell Us What You Want to See

Hello, folks.

If you read last week’s The People Speak (which I encourage you to do so, because that series has received a few changes, too), then you’ll know that I’m now the new Executive Editor of GameRevolution. Though it’s probably more than a little diva-ish to make two formal introductions, I’ll give you a TL;DR: I used to freelance at GR way back when (2014), then I moved to its sister site CraveOnline as the UK Managing Editor, and now I’m back here again to assume the role of Final Boss. Fortunately, unlike most final bosses you can’t just bounce on my head three times to get rid of me; I’m going to be here for a while, and as such I want to know what YOU would like to see from GR moving forward.

When I freelanced at GameRevolution, my favorite thing about the site by a considerable margin was its community. I missed the interesting discussions you folks would have beneath each post, putting most other comments sections to shame by actually contributing to the high quality of the site, rather than detracting from it. It had its own distinct personality, one where even if you disagreed with the author of an article, the comments beneath it would be (mostly) constructive, funny and (again, mostly) a pleasure to read.

GameRevolution has been through numerous changes since I stopped writing for the site, and as is typically the case during periods of transition, some of its community has slipped by the wayside for one reason or another. While GR is still doing as great as ever, I’d love to see its friendly, bustling community make their return, along with welcoming a whole bunch of new faces to the site. In order to do this, I’m ensuring that engaging with you, our loyal readers, is at the very top of my list of priorities.

GameRevolution-Forum

As part of the process to inject a shot of adrenaline into the arm of the GR community, we have a new Community Manager heading up our wonderful forums, Mr. Tachy. If you’re interested in free stuff — and if you aren’t, then please direct me to the money tree you’re apparently visiting — Tachy will be staging multiple contests over there in the coming weeks, allowing our most frequent visitors to bag themselves some gaming goodies. Alongside these contests, Tachy will also be firing up more topics, stirring things up and generally making the GR forums an exciting place to visit for those who enjoy a chat with like-minded people interested in all things video games.

But outside of a more heavily populated forum, what can you expect to see from GR moving forward? Here’s the plan:

  1. Features with personality. Articles penned by people who love video games, and who articulate that love compellingly to their readers. Even when it comes to writing about the games we dislike, you’ll be hooked. I promise.
  2. Stories you’ll want to share with your friends. There are tons of weird, wonderful (and yes, sometimes controversial) stories surrounding the gaming community, and a new focus of GR’s will be to deliver these stories to you in one place.
  3. A helping hand. Many of our veteran readers first came to GR through its legendary cheats section, which housed cheat codes online back when most people got them from magazines. If you aren’t already aware, GR has an extensive guides section, and it’s only going to get bigger. If you’re struggling on a particular part of a game, take a look: we’ve probably already written about it.

So there we have it: that’s our plan. But what would YOU like to see more of? Well, that’s the beauty of the comments section; let us know. Every suggestion will be heard, before being passed through our GameRevolution Idea Selection Machine, and then potentially making it onto the site itself.
