What Are You Playing? Realm Royale, The Crew 2, and Mario Tennis Aces

It was a reasonable week or so for new game releases, with Mario Tennis Aces giving Nintendo Switch owners a surprisingly complex tennis game to duke it out on, while The Crew 2 is revving up before its official launch later this week. Elsewhere, the team at GR Towers have been enjoying some good old-fashioned battle royale in the form of Realm Royale and Fortnite, along with the Life is Strange spin-off The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit.

Let us know what YOU have been playing this week in the comments section below!

Paul Tamburro: I’m playing The Crew 2 for review. It feels pretty barren, which is strange when you consider that this complaint was leveled at the first game’s launch. Switching between planes, boats, and cars is smooth, though there’s not really a lot for those planes and boats to do. It’s no Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed, that’s for sure. I’ve also been playing Mario Tennis Aces, which is a sports game that’s somehow the best fighting game of 2018. Don’t @ me.

Jason Faulkner: I’ve been playing NiER: Automata BECOME AS GODS Edition (all caps according to the PR) for our Twitch stream and I’m excited to continue. I never got around to finishing it when it first came out, and I’m pumped to see what all the hype is about.

Bradley Russell: I finally polished off Detroit: Become Human. It’s easy to dunk on David Cage but, honestly, I really enjoyed the entire thing. It didn’t drag, the QTEs were actually interesting (!), and, as Quantic Dream tend to pull off with ease, it’s unlike anything else I’ve ever played.

Astrid Johnson: I’ve been playing Fortnite on the Switch, and I’m really enjoying myself! The port is especially well-done, and the portability of the Switch has allowed me to get into the experience in a way I haven’t been able to before. The best bit is where Sony doesn’t have my Epic account held hostage, that’s my favorite.

Mack Ashworth: I’m planning to play more of Realm Royale, as I really like how it rewards kills. Pretty different from the usual camp-until-the-end battle royale experience. Totally Accurate Battlegrounds also got a nice update, so I’ll be exploring that, too!

Michael Leri: After seeing the credits roll on Detroit, I plowed through yet another clumsy-but-endearing game: The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit. Although Detroit is a much better experience and far less awkward, both have great moments that make them worthy of playing despite the hiccups. I’ll try to get back to Prey one day but something tells me I won’t any time soon.

Aimee Hart: I’m currently playing Dream Alone for review. It’s a very, very, VERY dark platformer in every sense of the word. Unfortunately, the game is entirely broken. I won’t spoil due to embargo, but man do I wish I was playing Celeste instead.

Alleef Ashaari: I played Batman: The Telltale Series for the first time on my PS4 and it’s great. As a long-time comics reader, I appreciate how the developer took iconic DC characters and gave them unique twists. I don’t usually play episodic interactive narrative games but this might be one of the most intense experiences I’ve ever had. It provides a refreshing and intriguing take on the Dark Knight’s mythos.
