Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure Preview

Is it write to save the world?

When I heard there was going to be a new Scribblenauts game, I initially thought they might try to add words to the English language just for the hell of it. Maybe "yesterplug" or "slanglehangle," maybe more proper names, something like that. But instead, they're taking on the DC universe and filling up their stages with the likes of Superman and Wonder Woman. Nothin' wrong with asking for their help to solve a puzzle.

And that's what Scribblenauts Unmasked is about… in part. See, in the past it's been dedicated to puzzles and solutions, but this time there's also what's being called the Brawl System, which is exactly what it sounds like. Worlds like Gotham City and Oa fill up with random characters looking for random helping hands, wanting puzzle-y assistance, or just itching for a fight. It's your job to provide them with that ass-whoopin', and you can provide it any way you see fit.  Hell, you can run in swinging yourself, but that's suicide in most circumstances.

What stands out this time is that over 2000 characters and items from the DC universe is in here. I tried a handful of characters specifically that weren't too weird to see them in action—specifically Martian Manhunter, the Wonder Twins, and the Wonder Twin's pet Gleek—and aside from the little blue monkey, they all popped up without a hitch. What 5th Cell is hoping to incorporate into this edition is quite awesome, and combined with a system in-game to help players access everything they might desire from the DC universe, it should be a comic lover's dream toy box.

With some minor graphical upgrades and touches, including Maxwell's changing facial expressions (differing dependent on his actions), this should be the prettiest and most robust Scribblenauts title to date. This Wii U version of Scribblenauts Unmasked is scheduled for a Fall release window, so there's time to brush up on your comic book history!
