Enough with the drill-claw already! Review

Enough with the drill-claw already!

If you liked the arcade game, you’ll love this seamless Saturn translation. All the characters, all the backgrounds, all the sounds, all the moves: everything is here. You don’t have to feed quarters into this one. What more is there to say?

If you’ve just returned from the island kingdom of Tonga, X-Men: Children of the Atom is a 2-D vs. fighting game. The fighters include most of your favorite X-Men, and several of their enemies as well. They all have special moves, special abilities, and a ‘Hyper-X’ move that you can activate when your mutant power is maxxed out. From Storm to the massive Sentinal you can control your favorite character and try to defeat your friends or the computer.

The power of the fighters is fairly well balanced, despite their very different speeds, powers, and range of special moves. Characters that have less armor, like Iceman have more long range attacks, and are faster. While others, like Colossus have massive armor and are very powerful, but are slower and have to get in closer to fight. Magneto is nearly impossible to beat.

2-D graphics is really where the Saturn excels over the PlayStation, and X-Men illustrates this perfectly. While the PlayStation can rotate more polygons, 2-D games like this one, or Rayman are just a little prettier on the Saturn.

  • An excellent fighting game, alone or with friends.
  • Too easy to get trapped in a corner.
  • Reccomended for all fighting game enthusiasts.
