FlexiSpot Sit2Go 2-in-1 Fitness Chair Review: ‘Fitness without the mind-numbing boredom’

I hate physical exercise. I don’t get that sense of satisfaction people seem to achieve when going to the gym, I don’t find running around in a circle until I’m tired enjoyable, and I’ve never been able to stick to one of the thousands of apps designed to gamify the process. When I exercise, I always have to tie it into something I’m already doing — an energetic cycle to a coffee shop or a long walk with the dogs. Basically, to come to terms with exercising, I need to feel like I’m not actually exercising at all. FlexiSpot’s Sit2GO 2-in-1 fitness chair has been ideal, then, as I’ve spent the past week cycling while working or playing video games at my desk, giving me all of the fitness without any of the mind-numbing boredom.

Fitness without the boring bits

flexispot sit2go review

The Sit2Go is purpose-built for those in a rush. I’ve always struggled with carving a portion out of each working day for “me time,” and from its setup onwards, this chair knows that I’ve got things to do. Putting it together is extremely simple, with it coming almost completely pre-built save for the installation of the seat, backrest, and pedals. The bottom legs easily pop out and click into place, and six screws later you’re able to hop on and start cycling.

A resistance dial helpfully allows you to increase the amount of force you’ll be cycling against, while different fitness metrics are displayed on a screen at its base, which requires two AA batteries. It’s simple stuff — distance cycled, the time you’ve spent exercising, an estimation of the calories you’ve burned — and there’s no backlight here so if it’s tucked under your desk, it’s a little difficult to see. My desk is in a relatively dark corner of my office, so I found myself having to use my iPhone torch to keep track of my progress. But considering the chair is designed for extended daily use rather than short bursts of exercise, it’s not so much of a problem. Plus, the simplicity of it also means that it doesn’t need to be plugged in anywhere, which is a major positive.

In terms of comfort, this is almost a perfect combination of a fitness bike and desk chair. The seat is comfortable, so you won’t have to worry about any of the — ahem — downstairs discomfort typically associated with cycling for an extended period of time. The backrest is also firm with breathable material, making it ideal for those sweatier sessions. However, while the backrest’s distance from the seat can be adjusted with a hex key, it cannot be tilted so you’re stuck in its default position. As it’s leaned a little too far back to be considered ideal posture while exercising, it’s a shame that there’s no way to adjust this.

There’s also the issue of the seat’s height. While it can be lowered, the height of the pedals remains the same, meaning that if you have a small or low desk your knees are inevitably going to hit it as you cycle. As such, it’s essential that you get the measurements of your desk prior to purchasing. I’ve been using mine with a standing desk and it works great, with all promo images for the chair showing a similar setup.

The Sit2Go is for those with a specific measurement of desk, then, but for those who can fit it into their office space, it’s a tremendous addition to your day-to-day routine. With it being on wheels — which sturdily remain in place when you sit on it on a wooden floor — and being relatively light compared to other, similar chairs, it’s easy to move around your office space. This is great for swapping between chairs, and I’ve found myself doing far more exercise over these past two weeks than I would have usually.

FlexiSpot Sit20Go Review: The final review

The FlexiSpot Sit2Go may not be for every home office, but for those with a standing desk or a desk with more legroom, it’s an excellent addition that lets you keep to your fitness routine even on the busiest of days. For the first time ever I’ve found myself exercising without needing to carve time out of my day to do so, and for someone as fitness-phobic as me, that’s a huge deal.
