Marsback Zephyr Pro Review: ‘A gaming mouse with a fan is a cool idea’

MARSBACK ZEPHYR PRO GAMING MOUSE REVIEW FOR PC, PS5, PS4, XBOX SERIES X|S, AND XBOX ONE.

The Marsback Zephyr Pro takes aim at gamers burdened by clammy palms. Its unique selling point is that it has a fan inside that blows air on the user’s hand. In theory, this should help keep that mouse hand cool and make for more comfortable play. It’s certainly an interesting idea, but how is it in practice? This is my Marsback Zephyr Pro review.

The mouse bits

Marsback Zephyr Pro Review

Before I discuss the fan, let me first quickly break down the rest of the Zephyr Pro’s set of features. If it’s not obvious from the holes in its shell, this ambidextrous mouse is of the lightweight variety, shedding unnecessary plastic to hit 69 grams (without the cable). On my scale, however, with the non-detachable paracord cable factoring in, it weighs closer to 75 grams.

In the hand, the shape feels very similar to the Glorious Model O Wireless and I immediately felt comfortable testing it with Call of Duty: Vanguard and Apex Legends. The Pixart 3389 sensor worked flawlessly in my use with zero tracking issues even during extremely twitchy gameplay moments.

The OMRON switches feel crisp and responsive and the side buttons are only slightly mushy. They remind me of the side buttons on the Logitech G Pro X Wireless Superlight, so the mushiness is obviously not a dealbreaker when you consider how popular that mouse is. The scroll wheel has clear increments and will work well for those who use scroll to change weapons. The scroll click, however, is a little stiff.

I received the matte white version of this mouse for review. Though there is a black variant, I found the white really helped to show off the Zephyr Pro’s fantastic RGB implementation. It might not be the main marketed feature, but the 360-degree lighting is very well done. It’s diffused nicely and looks fantastic, even in a brightly lit room.

To customize the lighting mode, there’s a button on the base of the mouse. Further customization can be done inside of the optional software, though most won’t feel the need to install this.

The fan bits

The other button on the base of the mouse controls the fan. It’s a simple choice of on or off, which I was a little disappointed by. I was hoping for some different speed modes, to sacrifice quiet operation for additional cooling power. Unfortunately, the fan only spins at one set speed, which results in a soft blowing of air with very low noise.

It’s only when I try very hard to notice the fan that I can feel it. It’s very, very subtle and I do wonder just how big of an impact it will have on users who do suffer from clammy hands. I don’t really have this issue, so perhaps I’m not the best test subject. In my use, the fan went mostly unnoticed. I don’t think it gave me an advantage at all.

Marsback Zephyr Pro Review: The final verdict

Marsback Zephyr Pro Review

At $59, the Zephyr Pro gaming mouse is too expensive for a wired mouse with no bleeding-edge features. And no, the fan doesn’t count! With countless other mice available at this price, which boast an even lighter weight and more useful features, I think Marsbeck’s latest mouse product will struggle to attract customers, at least until there’s a significant price drop.

With all of that said, if you’re a gamer who gets especially warm hands while gaming, then the Zephyr Pro may be the solution you’ve been looking for. I just wish the fan moved more air!
