HyperX QuadCast S White Review: ‘Top-tier USB Microphone Now in White’

HYPERX QUADCAST S WHITE MICROPHONE REVIEW.

Towards the end of 2020, I described the HyperX QuadCast S as a successful combination of both great voice audio and RGB flair. Since that time, I’ve regularly recommended the mic as a go-to for those getting into streaming during the pandemic period. However, as time goes on, more and more competitors have entered the space trying to woo budding streamers and content creators. Does the QuadCast S armed with its clean white look still hold up in 2022? Here is my review.

It’s white

Let’s get one thing clear: the HyperX QuadCast S white version is completely white. The mic is white, the mount adapter is white, the shock mount is white, and the USB-C cable is white. HyperX has gone the whole nine yards with this white version, so you don’t have to worry about a sneaky black cable making its way into the box. Adding the white QuadCast S to a white setup would be perfect.

White-colored products are also favorites of those who custom paint or marker pen their own designs. While I must stress that you are responsible for anything you do to these products and no doubt risk voiding the warranty, it would be remiss of me to not mention this advantage.

When the white QuadCast S is plugged into the system, it operates like any other QuadCast S. It’s a condenser microphone, so it’s very sensitive and great for spoken word presentations like you find on YouTube and Twitch. It has four different pick-up patterns that can be selected using a knob on the mic’s rear, which is just above the USB-C and 3.5 mm headphone jack. On the bottom of the mic is a rotating wheel that adjusts the gain. Finally, the top of the mic boasts an easy-to-push mute button.

By default, the QuadCast S RGB lighting shows a rainbow wave. This looks nice enough, but it can be heavily customized within the HyperX NGENUITY software. (This software isn’t required for normal use, however, so users don’t need to keep it installed.)

Same great quality

As demonstrated in the clip above, the HyperX QuadCast S still sounds great in 2022. Even with my undisciplined movement and staying around 6-8 inches away from the mic, it did well to pick up a rich sound. I feel this emulates the “streamer approach,” though those looking to record more intimate spoken word for content creation can certainly move in closer while fine-tuning the gain.

The built-in anti-vibration shock mount pairs with the internal pop filter to handle any unwanted noises. During times when users get a little too excited and bump the desk or loudly shout into the mic, less desirable sounds are reduced.

When it comes to negatives, I think the mic stand is the main weak point. Though it does its job to stand the mic up, it’s very short, and I think most users will look to upgrade to a boom arm to get it higher off the desk. (In the video above, I have the mic placed on top of a box, which is obviously not ideal!) For those who do end up buying a boom arm, the QuadCast S’s surprisingly light weight will come in useful.

HyperX QuadCast S White Review: The final verdict

HyperX QuadCast S White Review

With an MSRP of $159.99, the HyperX QuadCast S remains a top-tier USB mic in the $100-200 price range. At the time of writing, however, the white version of the mic is available direct from HyperX for $119.99!

Whether you get it for $159.99 or less, the HyperX QuadCast S white edition will impress with its complete white theme, RGB lighting, and fantastic audio performance that still stands tall next to the competition.
