GEEKOM Mini IT13 PC Review

GEEKOM Mini IT13 PC Review

The GEEKOM Mini IT13 mini PC is an intriguing blend of compact design and powerful performance, making it an appealing choice for those seeking a small yet potent computing solution. The device’s use of the 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13900H processor, complemented by Intel Iris Xe Graphics, positions it as a strong contender in the realm of mini PCs, especially for tasks like light gaming, content creation, and multitasking.

One of the standout features of the Mini IT13 is its flexibility in terms of connectivity and upgrade potential. It boasts a comprehensive array of ports, including two USB4 ports and two HDMI 2.0 ports, alongside additional USB and Ethernet ports. This versatility is further enhanced by its support for multiple displays and entry-level VR, making it an excellent choice for various professional and leisure applications.

Big power in a small package

Another highlight is how compact the Mini IT13 is. This mini PC is one of the smallest around, despite the power it packs in under the hood. Its size makes it extremely portable for on-the-go video editing or other intensive tasks. It can also be mounted below a desk or even to the back of a monitor, making for a very clean setup.

However, the small size and limited cooling can cause some performance issues. The i9 version of the Mini IT13 doesn’t perform quite as well as I was expecting, and I’d be curious to compare it to the i7 version to see just how big of a difference there is. Allow the fan to run at 100% and the noise can become an issue. With most other GEEKOM PCs that I’ve tested remaining relatively quiet, I was surprised that the Mini IT13’s cooling solution was so offensive.

An unexpected shortcoming

What’s more, the Mini IT13’s reliance on DDR4 memory is a significant point of contention. In an era where DDR5 is becoming the norm, especially in high-end computing devices, the presence of DDR4 could be a dealbreaker. The product’s higher price tag — $799 for the i9 model — positions it in a segment where cutting-edge technology is expected, and it falls short here.

Don’t get me wrong, GEEKOM is still offering an impressively powerful computer in a very small package with the Mini IT13, but I can’t be as hearty with my recommendation given the shortcomings.

Final Verdict

The GEEKOM Mini IT13 is a high-quality, compact, and versatile mini PC that excels in connectivity and performance, particularly suitable for professional and multi-tasking environments. While it has some limitations in terms of memory technology and cooling, its strengths in processing power, I/O offering, and compact design make it a strong contender in its category.
