The Nacon REVOLUTION X Unlimited controller has got a tough fight ahead of it, as the enthusiast-level Xbox controller segment is already pretty crowded. With the likes of Microsoft’s own Elite Series 2 controller to compete with, not to mention many other third-party solutions from SCUF and others, Nacon has to deliver on quality while also pushing the envelope in a meaningful way. After using it for two weeks for both casual and competitive games, it’s time for my review.
Nacon means business
It’s clear from the unboxing experience that there’s a lot going on with the Nacon REVOLUTION X Unlimited controller. The box contains the pad itself, a carry case, alternate thumbsticks and D-pads, weights, and a charging dock. It’s an impressive assortment, all of which help make a great first impression and justify the more premium price tag.
I tested the controller on Xbox Series X, PC, and also my LG TV, making use of the three connectivity options: 2.4 GHz, USB-C, and Bluetooth. Switching between these is achieved using the controller’s built-in screen. Oh, yeah, Nacon’s latest controller has its own screen!
Yes, it has a screen

The little screen might seem a bit gimmicky, but it’s actually come in pretty handy. You can switch connection modes, sure, but you can also change profiles, tweak audio, and personalise other settings. If you have multiple different button configurations for different games, which many enthusiast/pro-level gamers do, visually seeing and selecting profiles is especially useful.
Nacon does also have a companion app, allowing for deeper customization. It works well enough to get the job done.
Modern must-haves

When it’s all set up and ready to go, the REVOLUTION X Unlimited begins to really shine when it comes to gaming performance. First, the sticks are Hall effect and designed to last the test of time. They also feel great to move about and are impressively responsive.
The next highlights are the buttons, with a clicky tactility that satisfies. The triggers deserve a nod, too, with the locks making them quick to rapidly activate, which is especially great for shooting games when using a semi-automatic weapon.
Back buttons make or break a “pro” controller like this, and I’m happy to say that the REVOLUTION X Unlimited comes with four buttons that all feel great to use. Nacon has clearly put thought into positioning these buttons as I quickly became used to them.
Some drawbacks

When it comes to downsides, I think the main issue is the REVOLUTION X Unlimited’s size. Though it looks like the first-party Xbox controller, it is actually a bit thicker. If you have larger hands, this may be an advantage, but those with small to average hands could find it uncomfortable to use.
The other notable downside is battery life. Though the provided dock makes recharging easy, the actual longevity of the controller on a single charge pales in comparison to some competitors.

Final Verdict
At £179.90, the REVOLUTION X Unlimited sits firmly in the premium controller category, and it largely earns its place with a strong feature set, solid build quality, and thoughtful customization options. While it’s not without a few drawbacks, like size and battery life, it still manages to stand out in a crowded field. For those after a versatile and performance-focused controller, it’s a serious contender worth considering.
