[Update] Warner Bros., NetherRealm Announce New Fighting Game – Injustice: Gods Among Us

Mortal Kombat developer NetherRealm Studios is sick of being known only for Mortal Kombat. Like I just did, everyone calls them "Mortal Kombat developer, NetherRealm Studios". To break away from their bloody roots, the studio along with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment have announced a new fighting game, Injustice: Gods Among Us.

Following up on Batman: Arkham City Lockdown for the iOS, NetherRealms' Injustice will focus on characters from DC Comics. Characters like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Solomon Grundy, Harley Quinn, The Flash, and many more.

The completely original storyline isn't a cut-and-dry, hero-versus-villain tale, and promises to blur the lines between good and evil, on an epic scale.

The game will release some time in 2013 on the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U, and a debut trailer is expected soon. We'll know more when we pay Warner Bros. a visit during E3.

[Update] We've got the full announcement trailer now thanks to SuperHeroHype.com:
