Fallout 76 I Am Become Death

Fallout 76 Nukes Have Accidentally Been Removed by Bethesda

Fallout 76 nukes have disappeared from the game, with Bethesda accidentally removing the weaponry from its divisive multiplayer RPG. With the change taking place on January 1, 2019, many players assumed that it was an intentional decision on Bethesda’s behalf. However, the company’s Twitter support account has confirmed that it’s an unfortunate issue that it is “actively investigating.”

Nukes are a large part of Fallout 76, requiring players to enter a silo in order to access a terminal that will allow them to deploy the apocalyptic bomb. Though detonating them requires no small amount of legwork, they’re certainly one of the more interesting aspects of the game, so their absence was disappointing for players spending their New Year’s Eve with the game.

At this time of this writing, a fix still hasn’t been deployed and silo access is still off-limits:

Numerous bugs are currently preventing players from launching the nukes. Players can no longer search for code pieces in the silo’s terminals, a hand scanner cannot be activated in Silo Alpha, and the Missile Silo State holo-tape is now temporarily unavailable. Bethesda hasn’t revealed when the bugs will be fixed, so for now players are being forced to wait until the issues have been resolved.

Fallout 76 has had a difficult time of things since its launch in November. Releasing to a negative critical reception and a massive consumer backlash, Bethesda’s multiplayer experiment didn’t go as planned. While it became the fourth best-selling game of its release month, a difficult period considering the presence of Red Dead Redemption 2 and Call of Duty Black Ops 4 it has also been branded one of the most disappointing releases of 2018.

One of Fallout 76‘s biggest features grinding to a halt in the New Year is pretty emblematic of the game’s tumultuous existence. Hopefully, Bethesda has a fix on the way soon, otherwise the “nuclear” part of the game’s nuclear wasteland will have been very short-lived.
