1200 People Agree To Boycott Sony With Anonymous

Posted on Sunday, April 10 @ 13:44:02 Eastern by

If you own a Sony console, you've probably been paying attention to the attacks Anonymous has levied against Sony and the PSN. How fighting a corporation by screwing over a bunch of your fellow consumers makes sense is beyond me. Regardless, Anon marches on.

This time they're planning a sit-in to disrupt Sony's retail store business worldwide. Come next Saturday, be prepared to shop for a Sony product somewhere that doesn't have a giant Sony Style sign outside.

A Facebook event is organizing Anonymous to ask their moms and dads for rides to nearby Sony Style stores. After they get money for lunch from their ride, Anonymous will sit in and disrupt the normal Saturday business of people looking to buy Bravia TVs, Vaio computers, and of course, PlayStation 3s.

If you didn't think the whole thing was stupid yet, you should know that many of those attending have left their privacy options on Facebook off. With them having already failed at remaining "Anonymous", you'd have to wonder how successful Operation Sony will be on April 16th.

Has anyone else forgotten why this whole thing started? Seems like someone's 15 minutes of internet fame are up.

So wait, their goal is to hurt the company by harassing customers at a few locations? Yeah, I'm sure that's gonna hurt Sony's profits while the store manager/owner will call the police on them.

*sigh* Juvenile. Very juvenile. You have to wonder what the median age is for the people claiming to be a part of "Anonymous." 20 bucks says it ends in teen. No one is taking their message seriously, and no one ever will with the tactics they use. They only manage to make themselves look like immature "vigilantes" deluding themselves into thinking they're making a difference. I don't approve of Sony locking down their hardware, and I support Geohot's right to hack a piece of hardware that HE owns. I also support his right to share his techniques with others. But trying to DoS Sony, and then sit in front of their stores isn't going to affect this case in any way. If anything, this is making Geohot look bad to the people who are going to get to make the decision in the end (the courts).

Oh, De-Ting, how charitable you are to think more than even 3% of these people HAVE PS3's.

Good point. Then let's say 1,200 douchebags that will never plague PSN.
